New York Crash Reporting Requirements
Reporting duties kick in at a dollar threshold that is lower than most drivers expect.

- $1,000
A report is required for any crash causing death or injury, or damage in excess of $1,000 to the property of any one person — including your own.
- Deadline to file
- 10 days
Within 10 days of the crash. DMV may suspend your driving privilege until the report is on file.

- New York State DMV
File form MV-104 (Report of Motor Vehicle Crash) with DMV — by mail to the address on page two of the form, or online at reportcrash.dmv.ny.gov. This is separate from any police report.
