Texas Crash Reporting Requirements
Reporting duties kick in at a dollar threshold that is lower than most drivers expect.

A report is required when a crash causes injury, death, or apparent property damage of $1,000 or more.
- Deadline to file
- 10 days
The driver's crash report (CR-2) is due within 10 days when police did not investigate the crash.

Since September 1, 2017 (SB 312) TxDOT no longer accepts or retains the CR-2. Submit it to the local police department instead, and keep a copy.

TxDOT stopped accepting the CR-2 driver's crash report
SB 312 ended TxDOT retention of the CR-2 'blue form'. Drivers now file the report with local law enforcement rather than the state, and keep their own copy.
